Instagram Shop Product Tags: 6 things you need to know

Manage your own Instagram Shop? Make sure you follow best practices and avoid common mistakes.

3 best practices for tagging your products:

DO: be careful the tags don’t overlap, as this will obscure the text, which makes it difficult to click the link.

DO: add product tags to images, videos (previously IGTV), Stories and Reels. You can tag up to 5 products in each post.

DO: hyperlink the product titles in caption copy.

3 common mistakes to avoid when using product tags:

DO NOT: position a product tag in the bottom left hand corner of your post - it will be covered by the β€œView Products” button - also, DO NOT position a Product Tag in the top right hand corner of a Reel, Carousel or Video - it will clash with the icon for the type of post.

DO NOT: include your profile name in product titles - it’s a waste of characters - your @name will display automatically when other users tag your products in their posts or Stories.

DO NOT: allow Stories with product tags to expire - PRO TIP: you can switch on the β€œAuto-Highlight” option for all Stories with product tags - this will save them automatically to your Highlights.
