Who Will Make Britain “Great” Again?
What will happen to “brand Britain”?
The sad state of Britain’s current reputation on the international stage, seems echoed by a distinct lack of pride across our increasingly divided kingdom. Each week brings more ridiculous developments from the House of Parliament, with news so embarrassing previous leaders would have been shamed into resignation. And yet… it goes on.
Search for “very British____” and the most common results are an amusing collection of clichés – classic British traits and traditions, from always drinking tea, to never saying what we really mean.
We don’t need more nostalgic definitions of Britain – it’s the new definition of “brand Britain” I’m wondering about. Marketing minds will attest the truism: a brand exists only in the minds of its customers. Could this mean the new “brand Britain” can be created by those who live, work and play here?
Recommend Great Britain
We’ve all read a customer review and “Top 10…” articles – millions of us follow Influencers across all sectors, who share the best tips and latest trends. Recommendations are valuable for both buyer and seller – a positive Social Media activity, something worth encouraging especially during these dark days online. But the truth is, I often intend to write a review, but fail to get around to it.
In the spirit of doing something positive, even just to wallow slightly less in this somewhat gloomy era, I ask you: what is “great” in Britain right now?
If you can think of something you would happily recommend, then I invite you to share your British recommendations using #GreatBritish____*.
*insert whatever you want.
Anything you can enjoy in Great Britain – not only that which is made here – such as:
#GreatBritishSushi #GreatBritishInteriors #GreatBritishShoes #GreatBritishCocktails #GreatBritishCycling #GreatBritishHoliday
NB: #GreatBritishBakeOff is already taken 😉
While I am well aware that proposing a #campaign is far from groundbreaking, generating a free flow of positive recommendations does seem easier via a hashtag, than asking everyone to write a testimonial.
