Top 5 SW London Restaurants Open Mondays
Top 5 South West London Restaurants Open Mondays
As a south Londoner for the last ten years, and working predominantly with hospitality brands, I have enjoyed many lunches and dinners in restaurants around the SW postcodes. There are so many great places to eat South of the river, serving delicious food from around the world.
The majority of restaurants close on a Monday; after the weekend it is naturally the best time to give staff a well-earned day off! This means the selection of restaurants is somewhat limited. Many times I have needed to entertain a client on a Monday lunchtime, while remaining relatively close to our office in Clapham, so I thought I’d share my top five picks of restaurants open on a Monday, here in our area.
27 Battersea Rise, SW11 1HG | 020 7223 1112
A relatively new addition to SW11, opening just two years ago on busy Battersea Rise, just moments from Clapham Junction station and around the corner from the equally restaurant-and-bar-packed, Northcote Road. This is a French restaurant, part of the Terroir Brawn group (Toast, Terroir), known for its dedication to natural wines and high quality ingredients. Enjoy a glass (maybe a bottle) of wine in the bar area, or on the balcony – you can pop in for drinks, and/or eat in the restaurant where the kitchen has an open hatch. I cannot recommend any dishes, as they change the menu so regularly, but I can tell you everything I have eaten there has been delicious.
Top tip: Make sure you book a table, particularly for dinner, as it can get busy.
2 Bellevue Road, SW17 7EG | 020 8672 0114
Considering this restaurant has two Michelin stars, I find the atmosphere very casual and welcoming to all. Certainly this is a place where only business dress or your best frock should be worn, with white table cloths and shining silverware; this is fine dining, and everything an ‘occasion restaurant’ should be. Just metres from Wandsworth Common train station, this gem sits on the picturesque little shopping street Bellevue Road, directly opposite the expanse of green which leads to the ponds. Again, the menu here changes often and I recommend booking ahead. Ask the impeccably trained staff to help select your dishes – hearing them speak so eloquently about the food, is an additional treat.
Top tip: The set lunch is excellent value.
4 The Polygon, SW4 0JG | 020 7622 1199
This cornerstone of Clapham has its feathers unruffled by the recent new additions to the SW4 restaurant scene on the high street. A classy, modern establishment, located on the enticingly named Polygon, in Old Town, just a few steps from Clapham Common tube station. Chef-Owner Adam Bryant and his team serve beautifully presented dishes, in a fine dining style, each with flavour and ingredient combinations, which have been so obviously chosen with extreme care and creativity.
Top tip: If Trinity is too formal for your Monday needs, then try their sister restaurant, Bistro Union, on Abbeville Road.
44-48 Clapham High Street, SW4 7UR | 020 3814 1818
This is one of those newbies on Clapham High Street. Opened in 2015 by Mint Group, Mommi is at numbers 44-48, just a few doors down from its sister venue, and widely known Clapham nightclub, Infernos. No dancing around handbags at Mommi though, instead you are greeted at reception and swiftly shown to one of the black, leather clad, banked seats, which encircle the central bar. The three-sided, ample bar is split in bright yellow and the selection on show is somewhat overwhelming. And I haven’t even mentioned the food yet: Japanese/Latin fusion. Discover if you can get a table – especially busy in the evening.
Top tip: Share plates are the style at Mommi.
15-19 Bedford Hill, SW12 9EX | 020 7680 2700
Another 2015 opening, this is the new incarnation of what was Harrison’s – a long standing locals’ favourite, run by the same people behind the well-known steak restaurants, Hawksmoor. Serving delicious and straightforward, modern British dishes, the newly refurbished dining room and bar is a dependable choice. The staff here are highly trained, providing a smooth, yet relaxed service.
Top tip: Order the steak, followed by the ice cream sundae – thank me afterwards.
