‘Social Christmas Shopping’ – Who said it has to be a chore?
‘I’ve finished all my Christmas shopping’ – I was sent into panic mode when I heard these words from a visitor to our new Clapham office this week. One of the downsides of these mild Autumns we have been enjoying recently is that Christmas sneaks up on us rather quickly, along with it the pressure of ticking off the names on our Christmas shopping lists.
Christmas shopping is a chore for most of us, I am guilty of falling into the ‘Amazon trap’ these past few years, with all shopping completed from the comfort of my sofa. Well not this year! Christmas shopping on the high-street can be a stressful, lonely experience, so I have plans to make it a sociable event. I will incorporate my shopping into days out across town with loved ones and soak up some of the unique festive cheer that only London can offer.
Here are my recommendations for some festive ‘Social Shopping’ days out across the Capital:-
With: Significant Other
Why: There is no better way to spend a few hours than in the wonderland that is Selfridges, especially at Christmas. If your budget will stretch to it, you can complete all your shopping here in one hit. I will enjoy a meander through the ‘world’s largest shoe department’, and the ground floor homeware department, while I know my husband can easily lose himself in the electronics zone, or simply indulge in the fine wine department. Once your shopping is done you can enjoy a cosy, romantic candle-lit dinner at the Alpine-style rooftop restaurant – Le Chalet.
Where: Greenwich Market
With: The Girls
Why: The charming covered markets at Greenwich, set within a World Heritage Site, really come alive at this time of year. The stalls are packed with gift ideas for all the family, nestled amongst some of the best street food you’ll find in London. But what really makes this an amazing London day out, is to travel to Greenwich by boat from Waterloo. You can enjoy a glass of bubbles as you sail down the Thames and take in some of London’s top sites and twinkly lights.
Where: The White Christmas Fair
Why: Naturally, the day I am most looking forward to is the one I will spend with my Mum at The White Christmas Fair. Not least because this is a Gertrude & Ivy event, but it is a fabulous, festive day out that I know both my Mum and I will love. The White Christmas Fair is an indoor shopping event, featuring a beautiful selection of over 40 stalls with all kinds of unique, luxury gifts for everyone on your list this Christmas. Whilst I’ll be busy welcoming guests and stall holders, Mum is especially excited about indulging in some of the extra activities available over the weekend, a little pampering at the blow-dry bar and the tour of the in-house whiskey distillery. All this within the borders of my beloved Battersea. See you there!
