New Starter for 10: Clare Mountain
New Year – New G&I girl!
We are very pleased to welcome Clare Mountain to team G&I, in the role of Social Media & Marketing Executive. Clare joins us from the emporium of sartorial elegance, King & Allen – bespoke tailors, and runs her own knitting design business.
Get to know Miss Mountain with this starter for 10:
Clare Mountain of Nottingham, under what circumstances did we meet?
I first met Emma Jane two years ago when I was tentatively looking to move out of the knitwear design industry, and into Social Media. We clicked immediately and knew I would enjoy the variety of activities, working with her would present. A couple of years later, I’m finally a Gertrude & Ivy girl and excited about where the future will take us!
What are you like?
I’m creative, sincere, ambitious and a learner. I always have several projects on the go!
Why are you like this?
My sister and I played in our own (crazy) make-believe worlds for way longer than we perhaps should have. Ever since, I have found that, as long as I surround myself with things that inspire me, I find it easy to dream up new ideas.
In 5 words, what is the definition of a G&I girl?
Enterprising, courageous, thoughtful, witty and creative.
Why did you choose to work in Social Media?
I am a people person and love how Social Media can help businesses, big and small, to connect and build relationships with their customers. I love how social media can communicate what you are all about and help your audience to see the people behind the brand.
Why did you choose to work at G&I?
Gertrude & Ivy combines my love of Social Media with my love of working with independent companies. I am entrepreneurial too, so I find it incredibly satisfying to help people grow their businesses.
How did you get tied up in knitting?
I was taught to knit by my Nannan at the age of 8. By the age of 13, I was obsessed; knitting every single day and even teaching my classmates to knit! I went on to study Fashion Knitwear Design, but after working in the commercial knitwear industry for a couple of years, I realised it wasn’t for me. Now, I have my own handknit design business, selling modern, minimalist knitting patterns to women who like to make their own clothes.
What song gets you dancing?
Anything from the College Dropout album by Kanye West. I can’t help but sing along whenever I listen to it (gets me a few odd looks in the gym!).
What is your poison?
I’m a tea-enthusiast by day, and by night, it has to be a G&T. Mother Mountain taught me well.
Do you have anything to add?
A BIG thank you to Emma Jane for inviting me to be a Gertrude & Ivy girl!
