July: International Ice Cream Month
As purveyors of quality social media marketing, we are partial to a careful selection of seasonal content. As you may know, July is internationally recognised as “Ice Cream Month”! In celebration of this most significant occasion, we have put together a showcase of our very favourite ice creamy posts from Instagram. Trust us, the results are truly mouthwatering, and these images are perfect illustrations for some of our top Instagram marketing truisms, common to many of the best Instagram profiles. We invite you to feast your eyes on these ice creams, as well as our observations and tips for marketing via this most visual of social networks, with the hook of some deliciously timely content.
We could not write an ice cream flavoured article, without first giving a special mention to the queen of all ice cream profiles on Instagram: @Icecream. This account proves how powerful user-generated content can be, when organised well and collated so beautifully. @ihavethisthingwithfloors is another excellent example of a purely UGC populated profile, with a serious following and high engagement rates, organised via the hashtag: #ihavethisthingwithfloors.
Simple, gorgeous, high quality images are a common feature of the top Instagram profiles – @Anneauchocolat uses the concept of white space (or breathing space, as we call it at G&I) to excellent effect, making the profile as a whole, as well as each individual image, a treat for the eyes (and the taste buds!). Anne’s consistent styling gives her Instagram profile a strong and recognisable look. International ice cream brand Magnum have identified Anne as an influencer – you can see evidence of the outreach campaign for the new store in Copenhagen, on her profile.
This account has cleverly identified the current hot trend, for all things unicorn and rainbow. By committing to a concept, this profile takes users on a wonderful journey of creamy, pastel colours and fluffy creativity. Hitting a zeitgeist means this profile is extremely popular, and will be as long as the fashion for colourful, imaginary animals continues. By having a common archetype running through the images, a profile gains focus and thus the potential to make a louder noise.
This Australian account caught the eye of our Social Media & Marketing Executive, Ell – the blend of colours, while remaining within a scheme, meant this profile was not to be left out of this creamy lineup.
This account is extremely well known among regular Instagrammers and we believe much of international photographer @GrayMalin‘s fame in the industry, was first established via this social network. The images of balloons, inflatables, pools and beaches, are fast becoming iconic and instantly recognisable, as his signature style – thus illustrating some of the marketing truisms detailed above. Now the strength of these images has come full circle – his account shows users who have photographed themselves, proudly alongside a print of his work, inside their homes – thus giving the photographer some wonderful UGC to post, a chance to acknowledge his fans, plus a gentle stream of brand advocates.
This profile made the list because it is head-turningly weird, it uses white space like a boss, and is committed to its concept. Probably for the same reasons, @Ice_cream_books has a very high engagement rate, for what is a relatively niche and new account.
This international ice cream brand is well-known for producing high quality social content, which performs very well via Instagram. The example image from the @Magnum account, shows the brand partnership with Kendall – model and member of the Kardashian clan. Linking with famous faces to promote brands is nothing new, but we particularly wish to highlight the creativity of this particular partnership: from Kendall’s fashion choice, to the production of fashionable Boomerang videos – celebrities and influencers present the opportunity not only to bring an existing audience as a benefit, but also the chance to make timely, eye-catching content together.
