Cocktails of Desire
London Cocktail Week is well and truly underway. As Gertrude & Ivy is an agency heavily based in the food & beverage industry, and I am a professional eater and drinker, I felt it was my duty to report to you the top five cocktails that must be tried from bars around South London. It’s also London Restaurant Festival so make sure you line those stomachs before trying these out!
*WARNING* cannot be held responsible for any sore heads the next day!
Coolmans at Bar 366, Earlsfield
English mustard infused Sipsmith vodka, Koko Kanu rum, crème de banane, pineapple & lime juice
Mustard is a rather unconventional ingredient to add to a cocktail, but I’m not one to shy away from unusual things (or drinks with vodka!). Plus, the addition of pineapple juice and crème de banane hint there could be a sweetness to this tipple to counteract the spicy mustard. AND – who doesn’t love drinking a cocktail out of an extraordinary glass?
Marmalade Champagne Cocktail at No.32 The Old Town
Chase marmalade vodka, Champagne and fresh lemon juice, with a twist
Any cocktail that has champagne is a winner in my eyes. Bubbles scream ‘celebration’ so why not rejoice in the end of the working week with this fruity and marmalade based concoction.
Purple Haze at Northcote Records
Eristoff Vodka and fresh raspberries balanced well and laced with Creme de Mure
Ok, this one is in fact a shot – see pre warning – but I thought I would sneak this delicious shooter in. Yes, it’s also another vodka based drink (starting see a pattern here?). This one has a much sweeter taste and gets a thumbs up from me with a name like that – obviously referring to the Jimi Hendrix song…!
Mr Miyagi at The King of Ladies Man
Seaweed infused Zubrowka vodka, Calle 23 Anejo Tequila, cranberry juice, lime, rosemary syrup and grapefruit bitters
By now I’m sure you’ve established my favourite spirit is vodka! This particular brew has seaweed infused vodka which makes this a very intriguing one. And yes, that’s a piece of pickled ginger floating delicately above the Mr Miyagi cocktail.
Blueberry Caipirinha at Rise 46
Sagatiba Cachaça, Fresh Blueberries, Blackcurrant Cordial, Fresh Lime, Agave Nectar
With ingredients like blueberries and blackcurrant this drink is definitely one I’d want to have a few of! Well, I’m happy to tell you all: it’s low calorie! We can all have many of these and feel totally guilt free!
